Thanks Dom, 1933-2009

Comedian and culinary maven Dom DeLuise passed away yesterday. I’ll always remember Dom as the crazy guy who used to peddle Ziplock products to my mom. But, in truth, Dom was one of the best character actors of his generation. He knew how to take the hits (literally) and kept rolling. He was unafraid to be the fall guy, if it meant good comedy. To me, that says much more about a performer than just being able to quip a witticism.

Dom endeared himself to my generation through roles in family entertainment like The Muppets, and his work with animator Don Bluth. He may have never had the biggest parts, but he knew how to get big laughs. We’ll miss you Dom; you were the greatest.
